Cathedral: In Inka times, the mian square in Cusco was surrounded by the kings' palaces, built to house their "Panaka", or royal extended families. One of those palaces, located North-East of the main square, was the Kiswarkancha, belonging to Inka Wiracocha.
Cusco cathedral is without any doubt, one of the most noticeable colonial buildings in  America. Its structure belongs to the renaissance time and its layout is shaped after a latin cross, with crossing paths liking its two side Churches, the Churche of the Triumph to the east and the Church ofthe holy Family, to the west. It has three ailes, the central one, the Epistle one to east and the Gospel one to the west.
On the Cathedral central columns there are paintings representing Saint Luke, Saint Matthew, Saint Gregory Magnus, Saint Jerome and Saint Augustine, all them by Antonio Sinchi Roca, who was a descendant from the Inca Nobility, and native from Maras village, current disctrict in Urubamba province. who besides has other paintings in the Church of the Holy Family in this very Cathedral.
Three years after the spanish invaders arrival, Manco Inca waged a war to get back the Inca state. The Cusco siege by Incas took place getting the conquerors almost completely defeated, all of them joined inside the Suntur Wasi,. The Catholic tradition tells that right by that time, the Virgin of the Descent came down from heavenand made the miracle to give spandiars strength and intelligence to become victorious. Even more, the catholic tradition also tells that by those circumstances, Saint James the Greater appeared riding his horse and killed the Incas, so Saint James the greater is known as Indians killer. Thus with the help of these two divinity ambassadors the invaders were able to get victorious,. That is why it is named as the Church of the Triumph. The spaniards triumph  over the Incas. Outside on its facade, on both sides of its entrance ther are writings carved in stone dated 1664 telling about those miracles. The Cathedral has one nave and two aisles, six altarpices carved on cedar wood and gilded in gold flakes. The firts altar, Baroque style and very big, stands on the right hand holding a crucified Jesus Christ statue. It has besides, two neoclasical style altar pieces made of gypsum. In the central part of the Church, the high altar completely carved in granite, embellished and gilded in some areas is located. That altar houses a Virgin of the Descent effigy in its upper part. In its lower part there is a wooden croos know as the conquest cross which was originally brought by Father Vicente Valverde from Spain, so being it the first Christian croos showed in the Incas Land.
